1. Masada National Park, Israel
This park combines compelling scenery with historic cultural attractions. Located above the Dead Sea high atop a plateau of the eastern Judaean Desert, the Masada National Park is one of the most popularly visited sites in the country. The ancient site of Herod the Great’s palaces, it was also a place of siege and the mass suicide of Jewish rebels. As such, the park is visited by scholars and archaeologists as well as tourists.
