7. The Waitomo Glowworm Caves

One of the most incredible tourist places in New Zealand is located on the North Island of the country. These are the famous karst caves – a real masterpiece that nature has created over millions of years. The Waitomo caves are called the Glowworm caves for a good reason: the walls of the caves are home to hundreds of thousands of glow worms or fireflies.
The caves also have an underground river of safe, slow-moving water. You can rent an inner tube and lazily float down the river in pitch darkness, with nothing to light your way other than the glowworms around you. It’s unlike anything that most people are ever likely to have experienced.
